A: How do you like your new branch office?
B: As soon as I got transferred, I got a heavy workload right off the bat.
A: I thought you were going to get trained first.
B: The manager had to leave to take care of some personal things, so I took over his work as well.
*branch office: 지사 * get transferred: 전근하다 *get trained: 교육 받다
*personal things: 개인적인 일 *take over: 인수 받다.
A: 새로운 지사 사무실 어때?
B: 전근 가자마자 바로 막대한 업무가 주어졌어.
A: 난 너가 우선 교육부터 받는 줄 알았는데.
B: 과장님께서 개인적인 일이 생기셔서 내가 그분 일까지 인수 받았지 모야.
야구 공을 치기 위하여 피나는 훈련과 노력을 하지만 실상 그 빠른 야구 공이 날아오자마자 치는 순간은 불과 1초도 안 될 것이다. 이와 같이 빠른 순간을 나타내기 위하여 ‘right off the bat’이라는 표현을 사용하는데 우리말로
는 ‘즉시’, ‘바로’의 뜻이 된다.
