A: Phew! I’m glad that’s finished. It seemed like it took us forever to finish the first draft.
B: What are you talking about? We still have to do all the editing and design work. It’ll be months before we’re done.
A: Oh, right. Well, I’m glad we’re done the first part, at least.
B: Come on, it’s just a drop in the bucket. Let’s get back to work.

A: 휴, 그거 다해서 다행이야. 초안 완성 하는 게 평생 걸릴 줄 알았는데.
B: 지금 무슨 얘기 하는 거야? 우리 아직 편집하고 디자인 작업 남았어. 다 완성 할 때 까지 수개월이 걸릴 꺼야.
A: 맞다. 적어도 처음 부분을 끝내서 그래도 다행이야.
B: 자, 그건 빙산의 일각에 불과해. 어서 다시 시작하지.
물이 수 리터 들어가는 양동이 (bucket)에 단지 한 방울 (a drop)이라면 아주 적은 양을 가리키는 것이다. 우리말에도 ‘빙산의 일각이다’, ‘병아리 눈물 만큼’이란 표현이 있듯이 영어에도 아주 적은 량을 강조 할 때 ‘a drop in the bucket’이란 표현을 쓴다.
